Tahoe Donner Downhill ski area is a great place for beginners and children to learn how to ski or snowboard. It is a very small ski resort with only 2 chairlifts. One is a gentle “bunny” slope, perfect for beginners just starting out. The other lift gives you access to more challenging runs, especially on the back side. However I will not classified any of these runs as “black diamond” runs, maybe intermediate level at best.
Our two older kids also started out learning how to ski when they were 3 years old at Tahoe Donner Downhill ski area in the early 90′s, and they went on to compete in the Junior Olympics for cross country skiing. I loved teaching them how to ski there since the lift tickets were free for children under 6, and adult tickets cost around $20 back then.
Even now, the lift tickets at Tahoe Donner Downhill ski area are very reasonable. The full day rate is $41 for 13-59 year old, Child/Senior rate (7-12, 60-69) is only $21. Children under six and Seniors over 70 still ski for free.
If you own a home in Tahoe Donner, the rates are even more affordable. For the 13-59 age bracket, the full day ski lift ticket is only $21, and the Child/Senior rate is only $13. Also keep an eye out for specials that Tahoe Donner offers throughout the ski season.
Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski area also has a lodge with great burgers, fries, chilies. Overall it is a great resort if you want an affordable beginner ski place. The staffing is very helpful and friendly and the lift lines are never long.
For the next family fun and adventure, give Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski area a try and you may be surprised at how much fun you have.
